Connecting the TV to the set top box
I have an HD ready (or full HD) TV - how should I connect my TV?
The set top box and TV should currently be connected via SCART. Leave this connection in place and connect the HDMI cable to the set top box. Then do the following:
1. Go to the TV Set Up area (channel 999).
2. Select Video Output.
3. Select option 5 - HDMI (HD).
4. Select option 1 - Set new mode and continue.
5. Press OK to confirm.
6. Make sure that your TV is set to input to HDMI using the TV remote control.
You can now disconnect your SCART cable.
My TV does not have an HDMI connection - how should I connect my TV to the set top box?

If you have pressed OK to confirm and the above is not applicable then the following steps should work with no picture available.
1. Make sure the remote control is pointed towards set top box.
2. Ensure your TV is set to the correct input source (use your TV remote control).
3. Press TV Guide button (if box is off, wait 30 seconds to 1 minute, then press OK).

5. Press OK.

8. The picture should return. If this fails, restart from step 1.
Why when I power up my TV does it revert to SCART input even though I have set it to use HDMI?
This behaviour is dependent on your TV. You can either disconnect the SCART lead so that it does not default to that connection, or set your TV to input to HDMI using the TV remote control every time you power up.
I only have one HDMI connection on my TV and its in use?
You can purchase HDMI switches at electrical retailers.
Can you send me an HDMI cable?
You can purchase HDMI cables at electrical retailers.
Widescreen settings
Why is the picture squashed?
Check your Widescreen Options and set according to TV type, plus you may need to use your aspect ratio button on your TV.
How do I know if my TV is 4:3 standard or 16:9 widescreen?
4:3 standard TVs are squarer in shape. 16:9 widescreen TVs are much more rectangular.
How do I change my widescreen options?
Go to the TV Set Up area and select Widescreen Options. When you have selected Widescreen (16:9) you can then choose between:
1. Widescreen and 4:3 stretched
Selecting this option will show 4:3 video stretched to fit the screen.
2. Original Aspect Ratio
Selecting this option will display 4:3 videos in an area the size of a 4:3 display (as intended). This will pillar box the display of any 4:3 video; i.e. black panels will be visible down the sides of the video.
L to R: 16:9 video original aspect ratio; 4:3 video stretched to 16:9 widescreen; 4:3 video original aspect ratio
Where do I change my widescreen settings?
Go to the TV Set Up area and select the option "Widescreen Options".
Why does my widescreen TV have pillar-boxes (black borders) at each side?
It is set to original aspect ratio and 4:3 video is playing. If you prefer you can set it to stretch the video. This can be done in the TV Set Up area by adjusting the settings within the Widescreen Options.
Why are some V:MX videos cropped top and bottom?
Many music videos are supplied in non-widescreen dimensions (4:3) with additional borders added in production. This is beyond the control of Tiscali TV.
Subtitles
Why aren't subtitles available on all channels?
Subtitles are only available on broadcast channels (and their associated Tiscali+ recordings) that you receive via DTT (through your aerial). It should also be noted that not all broadcasters provide subtitles for all of their programmes. To check if the channel is received via DTT press the iPlus button and the Aerial symbol or the DSL symbol will be shown to indicate the source of the channel.
When will subtitles be available for DSL channels and On Demand content?
This is on the roadmap for future development but no launch dates are currently available.
