Top-rated cookery series Masterchef is setting sail for the States - and Gordon Ramsay is at the helm.

US network Fox has committed to its own version of the long-running show and Ramsay will continue to take the States by storm as he co-produces and takes an on-screen role.

Variety reports that Fox is expected to order a 12-15 episode series, with production to start in the near future.

Masterchef has aired on the BBC in a number of incarnations since it began in 1990, and despite an Australian version of the show having been produced, this will be the first time the franchise has hit the States.

This will be Ramsay's third series for Fox after Kitchen Nightmares and Hell's Kitchen.
