Spider-Man 3 (Five, 6.20pm)

Harry Osborn is still fuming about Spider-Man's role in his father's death

What's It About?
Life appears to be good for Peter Parker. Spidey is immensely popular, Mary Jane has a starring role in a Broadway play and he himself is making ends meet selling pics to the Daily Bugle.

However, the fly in the ointment is Harry Osborn. He's still fuming about Spider-Man's role in his father's death, and revenge is his only desire. That, combined with the introduction of two new bad guys, sets up a gloriously action-packed thrill ride.

Is It Any Good?
Although not as good as the first two films in the franchise, it's certainly well worth a look, if only for the impressive special effects.

Anything Else?
At the time it was produced, Spider-Man 3 was the most expensive movie ever, costing a mammoth $250million. That's since been surpassed by Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Thomas Haden Church spent 16 months beefing up his body to play Sandman; it only took the much younger Topher Grace six months.

Starring: Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Thomas Haden Church, Topher Grace, Bryce Dallas Howard, JK Simmons, James Cromwell

Star Rating: *** (2007)

Just Cause (Five, 9pm)

A legal expert attempts to clear the name of a man convicted of rape

What's It About?
Legal expert Paul Armstrong attempts to clear the name of Bobby Earl, a man convicted of raping and murdering a young girl.

He uncovers evidence suggesting he was forced him to confess at gunpoint but as he's putting the finishing touches to his case, events take a shocking turn.

Is It Any Good?
Based on a weighty novel by John Katzenbach, this drama features good work from Sean Connery and CSI star Laurence Fishburne.

Anything Else?
Look out for Scarlett Johansson among the supporting cast. This was her second big screen offering after the flop comedy, North.

It was penned by Jeb Stuart, one of the brains behind the original Die Hard and the blockbusting remake of The Fugitive.

Director Arne Glimcher, a friend of Sean Connery's, took over after original director Norman Jewison dropped out.

Starring: Sean Connery, Laurence Fishburne, Blair Underwood, Ed Harris, Kate Capshaw

Star Rating: *** (1995)

Born Yesterday (BBC One, times vary)

A less-than-bright young woman is taught about politics and social graces by a journalist

What's It About?
Billie Dawn, a beautiful, but less-than-bright young woman, is taught about politics and social graces by a journalist.

Is It Any Good?
This remake of the 1950 William Holden/Judy Holliday comedy is a remarkably good vehicle for Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith. John Goodman is as good as ever as the no-good businessman who exploits the young woman's naivety.

Anything Else?
The highlight of the film is Griffith's after-dinner speech which works rather well. It's ably directed by Luis Mandoki, who also made the Meg Ryan drama When A Man Loves A Woman.

Not everyone was impressed by Griffith's performance. She was nominated for Worst Actress at the 1994 Razzie Awards.

Co-star Fred Dalton Thompson, who plays Senator Hedges, was elected Senator of Tennessee a year after this was released.

Starring: Melanie Griffith, Don Johnson, John Goodman, Edward Herrmann, Max Perlich, Michael Ensign, Benjamin C Bradlee, Sally Quinn, William Frankfather, Fred Dalton Thompson

Star Rating: *** (1993)
