Summary

The ultimate singing talent show whereby aspiring pop singers are drawn from public auditions to perform in front of judging panel Simon Cowell, Dannii Minogue, Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh. This year the pressure is stepped up as performances are judged in front of live audiences.

The X Factor is a UK reality music talent show that was originally conceived to replace Pop Idol, and is now a massive international franchise. The competition sees aspiring pop singers - with or without any obvious talent - performing in front of a celebrity judging panel who usually tell them in no uncertain terms what they think.

There are four stages to The X Factor: auditions (where the majority of the entertainment occurs), boot camp, visits to the judges houses where finalists are chosen and the Live Shows where the viewers decide on the winner.

The prize is usually a recording contract, but any acts that make it to the final generate enough publicity to be a musical success one way or another. The 'X Factor' of the show's title refers to the indefinable 'something'; that accounts for star quality.

X Factor has turned into a popularity contest not a talent contest the two Irish lads are so bad & while they take up a place every week we could be listening to an act who has talent. I've stopped watching until the terrible two go. Trudy I agree less whinging more singing to many sob stories cloud the issue.

Surely, the whole X Factor is to find new talent rather than the judges bickering and trying to score points off each other. Lets all get back and think about the contestants Great show last night though. Stephen

I totally agree with trudy there is far too much whinging going on in this contest and some of it is coming from the judges. There was no excuse for the voting fiasco this week it was obviously a [pity me] vote that got some of them through. Let's just try to make the most of what is this year. a pretty bad job.

Why are contestants allowed to whinge and whine about their reasons for wanting to win the contest. Throw in a timely tear, and soft hearted viewers will be taken in by it, and instead of voting for the real singers, give their vote away. This happened last week when the two best singers were up for eviction. The only factor should be their ability to sing, and not the reason why they want to win. They all want to win abd should not be deprived of votes for any other reason.
