More about EastEnders

EastEnders is an award winning BBC soap and currently ranks within the top of the most watched shows in the country.

Set in the East End of London in the fictional Albert Square, the soap is famous for the 'social-realism' of its family-orientated storylines. Some of the more famous ones include the domestic violence between Trevor and 'Little Mo' Slater. It can also boast the highest rating of a British soap in history when 'Dirty Den' Watts handed over divorce papers to Angie back in 1986 - attracting 30.15 million viewers on Christmas Day 1986.

Phil has to admit to Peggy that he didn't get any extra cash from the bank - it came from a loan shark instead, who wants it back. Phil has to take drastic steps to get his hands on some dough, so sells the Arches to Pat.

Peggy is horrified that her eldest son has been forced into the deal. Lucy proves to be a chip off the old block when she spots a way to take advantage of Phil's financial position.

Meanwhile, Jordan is thrilled when he finally wins the opportunity to plant a tree in his mother's honour. Denise and Lucas's big day looms, and Owen is released from prison just in time to put a spanner in the works. He refuses to listen to Libby, who wants her dad to leave the happy couple alone. Instead, he gatecrashes Denise's hen night and announces he knows the truth about Trina's death.

Owen becomes obsessed with making everyone see the groom for what he really is. Unfortunately for him, Lucas has ideas of his own on that matter. Patrick is heartbroken on learning that Liz and Charlie are together, while Chelsea continues to flirt with Dr Al, despite the fact he's far more interested in Roxy.

Eastenders needs a reality check. I used to live in the East End of London 50 years ago, and they try to make out it's still like that - it's not. Nothing like. When Denise worked in the post office, there wasn't even a safety glass, or any enclosure round her! As if! That was a dreadful error - and why wasn't she ever held up by armed robbers? If anyone is flying anywhere, they just always get tickets at a moment's notice, always find the money from somewhere, ridiculous excuses are thought up for their absences, obscure relatives found, and note that the flights are always late in the day, so that they have time to run around Albert Square first to "sort everything out", go see people, add more drama, but they never pay the gas bill, or stop the electricity first, do they. And how come that they can pack up a whole life in one small holdall, which never seems to weigh more than a bag of sugar? Also, the writers need to be more realistic with the characters. Just because they decide that "X" will always wear lots of gold jewellery, doesn't mean that every single time they come onscreen, even first thing in the morning, they are walking about like an Argos catalogue! People wear different things on different days. Denise, for example, would not bother with all that bling every single day, also Chelsea. Do they ever think what season of the year it is? Even when it's cold, too much decolletage is on show. The women always wear lowcut tops. It looks ridiculous. They want to make it a gritty true to life soap, but they just don't think about the realities of everyday life in the East End. The plots are almost puerile in their simplicity. Archie wanting the pub - going about it with Janine like Laurel and Hardy. It's like wading through treacle. You always know that in a few weeks, the truth will always come out. How come someone is always hiding around the corner, or outside the lounge door of the Vic, always overhearing something vital! Noone ever hears anyone approaching! The floorboards in that pub probably creak like crazy. I could just go on and on... so many things are ridiculous, but coming from the East End, I have watched it from the beginning - so can't stop now. Some of the characters are way past their sell by date, some of them are just awful actors. I am sorry "Peggy" is going. She's a mainstay. The younger actors coming up are excellent and a joy to watch. (Well, most of them, anyway!) I shall carry on watching, and complaining!!

The writers for Eastenders need a reality check They seem to think the only way to get rid anyone is to run them over ie tiffany, phills wife, jamie, the girl pat run over, ect.to name but a few sex incest imorality abounds i will now stop wathing my once favorite soap untill a new team comes up with a beleavable storyline

What a dreadful place Albert Square is. So many murders, shootings etc. Marriage breakdowns, criminal activities and miserable folk. I should hate to live in theis surreal world. The east end was never like this when i worked there

I absolutely love Eastenders. For everyone who don't love it, YOUR SAD PEOPLE!! HA HA

Terry.

It is the most immoral and amoral show on TV. It has little to do with reality and how it manages ever to get awards is beyond me as it seems to operate at gutter level perpetually. It mainly consists of arguments with screaming from end to end. I cannot condemn it strongly enough - the English language does not have the words.

I agree with Alex- why isn't it on every day!!! Love it!!! Great to see Ricky and Bianca back in it too, woo hoo!!!

I try very hard not to watch any of the major soaps because I have a theory that they are all written by the same team. East Enders in particular (from what I hear through 2 closed doors) seems to consist of some 28 minutes of people shouting, screaming and falling out with each other. That's when they're not swopping jobs and partners of course. Many scenes seem to have absolutely no logic or reason, and characters just drift in and out with no introduction or explaination as to where they've suddenly appeared from. If ever my wife and I divorce (unlikely after almost 45 years, I shall cite East Enders in the papers!!
