Set in a fictional Greater Manchester area of Weatherfield, Coronation street is one of the longest-running UK drama series and even has its very own sobriquet 'Corrie'.

First broadcast in 1960 and created by Tony Warren, the show has created many memorable characters over the years such as Elsie Tanner, Bet Lynch and Les Battersby. One of the programme's characters - Ken Barlow - has been in the show since the very first episode. His marriage to fictional wife Deirdre was watched by more people than the Royal Wedding between Charles and Diana the same year.

Some of the more memorable plot lines over the years include Alan Bradley getting hit by a tram in 1989 and Richard Hillman driving the Platt family into the canal in 2003.
