Golf View hotel Nairn

Murry McPhee, hotel manager of the Golf View Hotel loves his job. 'It's a delight to get up every morning' he tells me whilst polishing the humungous mirror in the lounge area with a cheery smile on his face. But then, who wouldn't if they were appointed the management of a stunning Victorian building and had the outstanding views that the Golf Hotel boasts!

The view to the Moray Firth from the hotel is stunning and even better, it's only a stone's throw away. It takes thirty seconds from the hotel to access the impeccable beach. The Victorian building, which looks a lot smaller from the outside, provides many challenges when it comes to up-keep and a full house, but Murray succeeds in keeping the hotel in good order and is constantly seen buzzing around the communal rooms and taking a hand in the restaurant rather than hiding in a private office somewhere. It's definitely all hands on deck here and it's obvious that all the staff are happy and take pride in their work as they are constantly smiling and completely in charge even though the hotel is full.

Unlike small hotels or B&Bs you can remain anonymous in the hotel should you wish, however it's not so big that the charm and personality are lacking. The bar is traditional and relatively intimate in layout and the dining room and conservatory area although a fair size owns a cosy charm.

Opt for the master bedroom for oodles of space. There's lots of space in the bathroom - perfect for couples with young children. And the huge master bed is big enough to fit four people!

If you don't fancy wandering too far from the hotel, you can still be active with golf, walking or tennis or simply laze with a book in the lounge, gardens or conservatory. For those of you who fancy some pampering treat yourself to a spa treatment after a sauna steam room, swim or workout in the gym.

Caledonian Sleeper

Caledonian Sleeper The sleeper runs every evening apart from Saturdays and provides both berth and seated accommodation, which can be booked in advance online at www.firstscotrail.com or by telephone on 08457 55 00 33. Bargain berths are available from £19. Also available are First Class single cabins, Standard Class twin berths (customers can pay extra for single occupancy) and seated accommodation in a first class environment. A lounge car is also available for customers.
