If you're after the much-talked about 'holiday of a lifetime' then you can't really go wrong with Australia. Wide open spaces, amazing cities and beaches to die for might just be enough to tempt you to book your flights first thing on a dreary Monday morning back at the office - but wait, 24 hours of flying? Looking at it on the screen might be enough to put you off and opt for something a little closer to home.
But honestly, it isn't as bad as it seems - and I should know, having boarded at London's Heathrow for an almost non-stop flight to Sydney. I stretched out during the hour stop at the strangely enchanting Singapore Airport before jumping onto the second and final flight to Sydney. And I'm happy to report that all 6ft 2in of me made it in one piece - so if I can do it, you've got no excuse.
Besides, if the long-haul doesn't appeal you have the option to make stopovers in cities such as Hong Kong, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur and making it more of an adventure.
Here's how we got on...
- Hamilton Island
- The Hunter Valley
- The Blue Mountains
- Adelaide
- Kangaroo Island
- Editor's thoughts
- Getting there and away
