UK's best ruins
Dunluce Castle, Antrim, Northern Ireland
There are many ruined castles in the British Isles, but there are few as spectacularly sited as Dunluce, which sits on a craggy headland on the north Antrim coast, with a sheer drop to the sea below.
Built between the late-medieval period and the 17th century (at which point, the kitchen collapsed into the sea!), it's housed various clans, as well as the Earl of Antrim.
Book a guided tour, which will bring its history alive and fire your imagination. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Islay, off the Scottish coast.
