What are they like?
You get two for the price of one: these sister castles flank the beautiful estuary at Falmouth, and guarded against invasion from the 16th century, right up to World War Two. Pendennis, the big sister, has interactive exhibitions recreating the drama of battle, and secret tunnels for kids to explore.
What's the story?
They were built by Henry VIII during a brief respite from his marital problems. Both were captured by the Roundheads in the English Civil War. They were still used by the military until after World War Two.
