What's it like?
One of Ireland's best-preserved medieval structures, it sits by the waters of Belfast Lough. Life-size models of soldiers 'tell' you how it was for them, demonstrating everyday castle business such as pouring boiling tar down the 'murder hole' on intruders nice.

everyone's had a go at this castle since it was built in the 12th century by the Norman nobleman John de Courcy. William of Orange landed here in 1690, it became a prison in the 18th century, and the keep was used as an air raid shelter in World War Two.
