This year the National Trust takes you back in time to see how Christmas has been celebrated through history. How did a Tudor Christmas differ from a Georgian one? Was it really the Victorians who invented the Christmas traditions that we know today? What was it like to celebrate Christmas at a grand country house during the golden years before the first world war?
By visiting one of the National Trusts properties that are celebrating in period style you can find out the answers to all these questions and have a great festive day out.
Choose from a Tudor Christmas at Speke Hall in Liverpool where you can see the decorations in the Great Hall and meet characters from the Halls past, with authentic music, childrens activities and more; Georgian Christmas dinners and lunches at Gibside in Tyne and Weir; a Victorian Christmas at Petworth House in Sussex, with mulled wine and roast chestnuts, market stalls selling local produce, fairground attractions, and of course Father Christmas; an Edwardian Christmas at Polesden Lacey in Surrey, or even a roaring twenties celebration at Upton House in Warwickshire the choice is yours!
