If you're looking for a good-size TV with excellent Freeview and high-definition performance, the 42-inch Hitachi P42T01 plasma may well be of serious interest to you. It has some curious connectivity and below-par sound, but it's excellent value

We Like: Picture quality; motorised base; attractive design; sturdy build quality

We Don't Like: Sound quality; connectivity

Accessories: HDMI cable; HD DVD or Blu-ray player

Judgement: The Hitachi P42T01 is a well-styled TV with good picture quality, but it's let down by poor sound and annoying connectivity choices. It's still worthy of attention, however, especially for its above-average Freeview performance
