What is VoIP?
There has been a lot of talk of VoIP lately, but what exactly is it? Like many other recent innovations, it uses digital technology to give you an enhanced online experience. Don't be baffled by the name - read our explanation below to find out what VoIP is and how it might benefit you.
VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. Essentially this means your voice is converted into little packets of digital data which are sent across the Internet to the other person's VoIP 'phone'.
Tiscali Netphone does this and more. Your calls can be carried over your broadband connection, just like emails, pictures and other data, but without having to make expensive calls on your phone line.
With Tiscali Netphone - classic VoIP technology - calls to the other side of the world are much cheaper than many traditional phone companies.
As well as the cost-savings, Tiscali Netphone is also convenient. All you need is a fairly new PC, a broadband Internet connection and a headset (you can use a separate microphone and headphones, but headsets are much more convenient).
Why Tiscali Netphone?
WIth Netphone, your PC becomes your phone, fax machine and answering service, all in one. What's more, if you travel around the world with a laptop, you can use all the features of Netphone without having to pay expensive roaming charges.
You don't have to pay a subscription fee to receive calls, faxes or voicemail. If someone calls you on your Tiscali Netphone number but you miss the call, the caller can leave a message which will be delivered, free, to your Tiscali mailbox.
With several VoIP services on the market, see page 2 for reasons to try out Tiscali Netphone today. What have you got to lose?
Tiscali Netphone uses your PC to make calls to other PCs, other Netphone users, landlines and mobile phones anywhere in the world. In addition you can use Tiscali Netphone to send and receive faxes and text messages or as an answering service.
