Enlarge imageCAIRO (Reuters) - Tottenham Hotspur striker Ahmed ’Mido’ Hossam has been left out of a 23-man squad named by Egypt coach Hassan Shehata on Tuesday for the weekend’s African Nations Cup qualifier against Mauritania.
Mido sustained an ankle injury during his team’s 3-1 win over Watford in the English premier league on Saturday, the Egypt Football Association said.
Shehata recalled Shady Mohamed, captain of African Champions League winners Al Ahli, for the first time in four years and added two uncapped players in Tersana goalkeeper Ahmed Saad and Harras Al Hodoud midfielder Abdelsalam Nagah to his selection.
Egypt host Mauritania in their Group Two qualifier on Sunday. Egypt lead the group with four points, one more than Mauritania.
