LONDON (Reuters) - Aston Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel looks likely to miss the start of the premier league season because of a recurring knee injury.
The Colombian international, Villa’s top scorer last season with 23 goals, flew back to England on Tuesday from the club’s tour of Sweden after the injury to his right knee forced him out of a training session.
"I would say now that he will miss the Southampton game (on August 14) and that is clearly frustrating him," manager David O’Leary said on the club’s website.
"Of course it is a worry that our main striker is probably going to miss the start of the season. But this is our first injury of pre-season, so we can’t complain.

"Our physios don’t think he needs another operation but he might as well return to England to continue his recovery."
Angel, who signed a new four-year contract with Villa two weeks ago, had keyhole surgery on his right knee last month.
