| Kiwis confirm their 'money-spinning' Test |
The New Zealand Rugby Football Union (NZRU) Chief Executive Chris Moller confirmed that the additional fixtures would be played outside of the International Rugby Board (IRB) schedule and arranged by the NZRU and the hosts. The All Blacks will tour Wales and France this year as part of the IRB tour schedule, under which the host nations keep the profit from the games. The NZRU has publicly been campaigning for ’shared revenue Tests’ because it feels they are not getting any value out of the All Blacks’ popularity abroad. Moller told the media on Monday that one of the additional games would be a Test, while he was not sure whether the other game would carry the same status. However, Moller confirmed that the additional matches, on the end-of-year tour, would have "commercial arrangements" attached to them. Meanwhile, Moller said the All Blacks are likely to play the Pacific Island team at the North Harbour stadium on July 10. Moller said the venue was yet to be confirmed, but it was likely to be North Harbour Stadium in Albany. The Pacific Island team will also face the Springboks and Wallabies this year. Moller made it clear that the Islanders team the All Blacks will play should not be mistaken for Pasifika, the franchise that the owners of New Zealand Rugby League team, the Warriors, have pushed for inclusion in a possible expanded Sport Super 12 tournament from 2006. "Proceeds of the match will go to the Pacific Island countries," said Moller. "This is a significant contribution so it would be wrong to suggest that we’re not doing anything to help develop rugby in the Pacific Islands." The All Blacks are likely to play 11 or 12 Tests this year, depending on the status of the second additional match on the year-end tour. These include the June Tests against England and Argentina, the Tri-Nations involving Australia and South Africa in July and August, the Test against the Pacific Islands and the matches against Wales and France in November. Meanwhile, Moller said SANZAR and the IRB have met over recent talk of a Pasifika team. "We were hoping to get more details about this from the IRB, but they didn’t have any. We have also requested Cullen Sports [who have been talking about the team] to document a proposal which we can put in front of the SANZAR Board," Moller said. "We have no control over the dealings PIRA [Pacific Islanders Rugby Alliance comprising Fiji, Samoa and Tonga] have with others, but it becomes relevant when Pacific Island teams want to play in SANZAR tournaments."
