| SARFU's salaries revealed |
According to a story on the website, News24, Van Rooyen decided to make the salaries of officials public because of the outcry from within the players’ ranks, after SARFU officials released confidential details of the players’ salaries. According to the report, the salaries of the other officials are (excluding those amounts received from their Unions): Keith Parkinson R180,000 (US$25,714), Mike Stofile R180,000, Dolf van Huyssteen R90,000 (US$12,857), Jackie Abrahams R72,000 (UD$10,285), George Davids R72,000, Don Woolf R48,000 (US$6,857), Rautie Rautenbach R95,000 (US$13,571), Professor Jannie Ferreira R72,000, Rian von Gericke R48,000, Harold Verster R72,000, Baby Richards R90,000, James Stofberg R53,000 (US$7,571); Fanie Vermaak R48,000, Oregan Hoskins R114,000 (US$16,285), Koos Basson R119,000, Joey Daniels R95,000 and Muleleki George R90,000. Members of the judicial committee, as well as members of the transformation committee receive R24,000 a year. The salaries apparently include a cell phone allowance of R500 a month each, but the President, the vice-President, the Chairperson and the deputy Chairperson are each affored a monthly cell phone allowance of R1,000. Some of the other benefits include official transport for the President, but Van Rooyen says he does not utilise this. Members of SA Rugby (Pty.) Ltd and SARFU, travelling on official business overseas, receive a R450 (US$65) allowance a day. * Meanwhile, it was reported at the weekend that the five Springboks with SARFU contacts could take their employer to court after the details of their contracts were published by the media. Former Bok captain Corné Krige said in his weekly column in the Cape Town-based Afrikaans newspaper, Die Burger, that he knows for a fact that the five players’ contracts contained confidentiality clauses that prohibits both parties from making the contents of the contract known to a third party. "I have spoken to some of them (the contracted Springboks) and it seems that they might take steps against SARFU," wrote Krige. "If South African rugby wants to move forward, I feel it is vital that players and administrators start talking face to face and not via the media." Copyright Planet-Rugby.com |
