Big win for Romania over Spain

ROMANIA 50 SPAIN 10

The field was covered with 15cm of snow for the match scheduled for kick-off mid-day, and the Romanian army was called in to make the field as playable as possible.

The Spaniards, with the help of the elements, began attacking and after 12 minutes scored when fly-half Alfons Martínez kicked a penalty goal. But the Oaks came back with two unconverted tries, by lively scrum-half Lucian Sirbuand then by prop Marcel Socaciu.

In injury time in the first half, after a sweeping attack by the backs, Spain’s France-based centre Sebastian Loubsens scored a try, which Martínez converted to make the score 10-10 at half-time.

Martínez became the second Spanish player to receive a yellow card as the Oaks piled on the pressure up front. Experienced hooker Marius Tincu scored the first try of the second half to put his side on the winning track.

Four more tries followed, to leave the Romanians convincing victors by eight tries to one.
