TRAIN
You must get your ticket validated at the small machines situated at the ends of platforms before you get on board. They are not always very obvious. If you don't get your ticket stamped you are liable to be fined. You can see on the ticket where to insert it and get it stamped. You also need to stamp it for the return part of the journey. It means you can buy tickets in advance of your departure date. If you are taking a fast train, check whether there is a supplement to pay.
