Ancylus fluviatilis
Shell length 8mm

A characteristic species of fast-flowing streams and rivers but also found in clear lakes and upland tarns; intolerant of polluted or disturbed waters. Widespread and locally common and can be observed throughout the year. Typically found attached to stones and rocks. The streamlined, flattened conical-shape of the shell aids the animal's ability to cling on in fast currents. Grazes algae.
