Widespread and often abundant on mud of estuaries around Britain and Ireland and sometimes climbs glasswort at low tide on sunny days. Found mostly between low- and high-tide levels. Important source of food for many birds such as shelduck. Shell is dark brown and conical; apex appears blunt and usually rather worn.
