Extremely common among seaweed on which it feeds. Found on rocky shores from low- to high-tide levels. Shell is rather rounded but with a pointed, conical apex and a thick lip. Usually dark brown in colour and bearing concentric ridges and dark lines. Widespread on most suitable coasts around Britain and Ireland.
