Has a rather oval, pointed shell the colour of which is influenced by diet: this includes barnacles and mussels. Both creamy white and grey-brown forms are seen and banded individuals are not uncommon. Favours rocky shores wherever prey is common; sometimes seen beside egg masses which are secured to rocks. Widespread.
