Commonest of several similar limpet species and found on exposed rocky shores around Britain and Ireland; occurs between mid- and high-tide levels. Shell conical and ridged; older specimens usually encrusted with barnacles and algae. Grazes algae when covered by water; feeding trails usually visible at low tide.
