Similar to wood mouse but larger and with proportionately larger ears and yellowish collar on throat. Mainly a woodland species and competent tree-climber. Enters houses in autumn. Distribution patchy and local. Found only in Wales and C and S England; commonest along Welsh borders and in SE England.
