Body length 7.5-11cm

Commonest mouse of woods, hedgerows and mature gardens and important prey item for many native predators. Fur lacks warm brown hue of yellow-necked mouse and does not have this species' complete collar. Mainly nocturnal and may venture indoors in winter. Found throughout Britain and Ireland including most islands.
