Superficially similar to tabby cat but appreciably larger with bushier, blunt-ended tail. Body is always well marked with dark stripes and tail shows several dark rings. Largely nocturnal but sometimes seen prowling at dusk. Mostly confined to Scottish Highlands but sightings suggest range expanding W and N.
