Water Vole Water Vole
Arvicola terrestris
Body length 18-22cm

Charming waterside mammal, now rather scarce, in part due to habitat loss and predation by mink. Often rather confiding but will dive into water if danger threatens. Swims well both at surface and underwater. Burrow complex usually has at least one submerged entrance. Found in England, Wales and S Scotland.
