Truly arboreal, favouring coniferous forests. Excellent climber, ability and confidence shown to best effect when in pursuit of red squirrel prey among treetops. Recognised by reddish brown coat and creamy yellow throat and chest. Shy and largely nocturnal. Confined mainly to Scottish Highlands but locally also in N Wales and N England.
