Wingspan 32-39cm

Large bat with reddish brown fur and broad, lobed ears. Often seen flying just before sunset or even during the day. A woodland species which hunts above tree canopy. Direct flight pattern interrupted by occasional, rapid twists and turns. Roosts and hibernates in hollow trees. Found in England, Wales and S Scotland.
