Natterer's Bat

Wingspan 25-30cm
Medium-sized bat with comparatively large ears and well developed tragus. Wings pale in flight. Has brownish fur and fringe of hairs on wing membrane between legs. Generally favours wooded habitats but also found near water and in towns. In summer, roosts during day in hollow trees, caves and sometimes even lofts and buildings; sometimes colonial. In winter, hibernates in caves, tunnels and mines. Widespread and fairly common in England, Wales, Ireland and S Scotland.
