Lepus timidus
Body length 50-65cm

Sometimes known as blue hare because of blue-grey summer coat(A); in winter (B), has white fur, tips of ears remaining black. Favours upland moors although descends to lower altitudes in harsh winter weather. Found in Scottish Highlands and locally in S Scotland, Pennines and Snowdonia. The only hare native to Ireland.
