Mole Mole
Talpa europaea
Length 11-16cm

Molehills more often seen than the animal itself. Lives in burrows and feeds mainly on earthworms. Useful soil aerator but not always welcome by gardeners. Seen at surface only rarely, usually in spring or in wet weather. Widespread in England and Wales but absent from many Scottish islands and from Ireland.
