Long-eared Bat

As name suggests, has very long ears with well developed tragus. Seen in silhouette, outline of ears can clinch identification. Found in a range of habitats including gardens, woods and farmland. Flies throughout night and sometimes in daytime. Will hover to pick insect off vegetation. In summer, roosts in hollow trees and lofts. In winter, hibernates in cellars and caves. Widespread in Britain and Ireland as far N as C Scotland.
