Formerly common and widespread but now comparatively scarce and local. Usually associated with people, both on farmland and in towns. Grey-brown fur distinguishes it from other British mice. Mainly nocturnal and fairly vocal. Likely to be encountered in almost any urban site or arable farm in Britain.
