Body length 6-7.5cm

Britain's smallest rodent. Has orange-brown fur. Prehensile tail almost as long as body and used when climbing among plant stems. Mainly nocturnal and presence usually indicated by tennis ball-sized nests of woven grasses constructed among plant stems. Absent from Ireland and commonest in C and S England.
