Sorex araneus
Body length 7.5cm

Larger than pygmy shrew with tail length roughly half that of the body. Utters high-pitched squeaks. Found in hedgerows, meadows, marshes and woods. Constantly active in search of insects and other invertebrates. Common and widespread except in Ireland, many N Scottish islands and Isle of Man.
