An active, predatory annelid worm which is often abundant in estuaries and on sandy or muddy beaches. Widespread around the coasts of Britain and Ireland. Close examination reveals a toothed proboscis and jaws at the head end with tufts of hair-like chaetae on each of the 100 or so segments. Burrows freely.
