Elongated thorax enables head to be raised in a bizarre and fancifully snake-like manner. Transparent wings resemble those of lacewings. Associated with mature oak woodlands and seen May-July. Adult feeds mainly on aphids and larva found in decaying wood and under bark and also eats small insects. Locally common.
