Mayfly nymph Mayfly nymph
Order Ephemeroptera
Body length 8mm

Like all mayfly nymphs, this typical nymph shows the three tail appendages which are characteristic of the group. Representative species can be found in all types of freshwater from fast-flowing streams to the still waters of lakes and streams. Some mayfly nymphs are capable of sustained swimming while others tire easily. All show a marked lack of tolerance to pollution in any form.
