An extremely common soldier beetle. Body mostly orange-red except for tip of elytra which are dark. Very active in sunny weather and flies well. Frequently visits flowers, especially umbellifers, where it hunts for insect prey; often becomes dusted with pollen. Seen May­August; mating pairs are a common sight.
