Superficially similar to
Ephemera danica. Adult has a yellowish body but dark markings on upper surface of abdomen are usually triangular rather than oblong. Although, like all mayflies, the adult stage is short lived, the period of emergence extends MayAugust. The orange-brown nymph lives in burrows in sand at the bottom of slow-flowing rivers. Only common in S and C England.
