Shield-shaped in outline, the pronotum having prominent lateral processes. Reddish brown and shiny with legs, mark on scutellum and tip of wings orange-red; abdominal segment banded orange-red and black. As name suggest, found in woodlands where main food, oak, occurs; also feeds on other deciduous trees. Overwintering larvae appear in April; adults seen August-October. Widespread.
