Extremely common and widespread; generally associated with woodland, scrub and hedgerows. Body appears relatively narrow with reddish brown elytra and darker head and thorax; body cloaked in downy hairs. Best known for ability to hurl itself into air when placed on back, this process accompanied by a loud click. Adults seen May­June and often found on leaves of hazel. Larvae in rotting wood.
