Widespread around coasts of Britain and Ireland and commonest in N. A bottom-living species found among rocks and seaweed on otherwise sandy or muddy seabeds. Has elongate body with long dorsal and anal fins, continuous at tail-end. Sometimes found in pools at low tide. Important food of black guillemot.
