Atlantic Salmon

Length up to 120cm
Large and impressive when mature. Much of adult life spent at sea but returns to fast-flowing, healthy rivers in W England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland to breed. Moves upstream from November to February when rivers in full spate. Adult (A) jumps clear of water to overcome waterfalls. Spawns in shallow gravel beds after which most adults die. Young fish (B) migrate to sea after two years or so in freshwater.
