An extremely common woodlouse which is widespread in most lowland regions of Britain and Ireland. Often numerous in gardens where it hides under stones and in compost heaps and crevices in walls. Also found in hedgerows, woodland and coastal dunes. Emerges after dark to feed on algae and other plant matter.
