An intriguing species, easily recognised by its ability to roll into a ball when disturbed. Body colour uniform slate-grey. Widespread and reasonably common, especially in S England. Usually found in mature woodland where it hides under logs and in rotting wood during daytime; also in hedgerows and rural gardens.
