A meadow species, flying July-August. Upperwings orange-brown and underwings orange-buff. Brown underside to tips of antennae the best feature for separation from very similar Essex skipper. Common and widespread in S England and Wales. Typically rests with wings held at an angle. Has active, buzzing flight and fond of visiting flowers of thistles and daisies. Larva feeds on various grasses.
